Using QR Codes

What are QR codes?

QR codes started in Japan back in the 1990s but have since become ubiquitous worldwide, especially with the advent of smartphones being able to scan them so easily and their prevalence during COVID. So now QR codes are everywhere, and they're here to stay, but what exactly are they?

Well, they are like supercharged barcodes. Blocks of black and white dots that store lots of information. Each one is unique in its configuration and when you scan one with the camera on your phone, it takes you to a unique page on a website.

“"When someone you love becomes a memory,

the memory becomes a treasure."

How do you scan a QR code?

Open up your camera app and hover your screen over the QR code, as if you are going to take a picture of it. Once you do, the technology in your phone should recognise that it’s a QR code and a little box will appear around it on the screen.

If you tap this box on your screen it should then open up the unique page it's linked to in your phone's browser. That’s it. Now you have opened the unique page it's linked to without having to type out any website address or URL.

How our memorial plaques with QR codes preserve and share memories

So imagine having a place of your memorial for your loved one. This could be a gravestone, an urn, a park bench or even a special tree planted in their memory. These places to remember loved ones often feature a plaque that states their name, a quote and their date of birth and death.

But it could be so much more than this. The concept behind QR memorial plaques is to go beyond traditional memorial plaques that only display basic information. What if the plaque featured a QR code which, when scanned, links you straight to a narrated film full of memories and stories about their life and memories you shared together.

This interactive experience gives individuals the opportunity to learn more about the person being honoured, their accomplishments, and the impact they had on the lives of others.

QR memorial plaques provide a captivating way to preserve memories, but they also offer a means of sharing those memories with a wider audience. Friends and family members who may not have been able to visit the physical memorial site can now connect with their loved one's legacy from anywhere in the world.

Also, the bigger picture is that not only do current friends and family get to experience this, but future generations of your family. Have you ever looked into your family tree? Wouldn't your great-great-grandchildren be curious to learn more about their heritage and hear about the family traits they share, like those striking blue eyes long after you and your generation have passed?

Our new and innovative way of using QR codes is in memorial plaques, which is a way to keep your loved ones' memory alive in a digital space, forever.

What Makes Lasting Legacy’s QR code plaques different?

Other companies produce these types of digital QR code memorials of course, but what makes ours different from the rest is we help you hand-craft a short film about the life story of your loved one. In many ways, the QR code plaque is just the very last small piece of what we offer.

Would you rather read through several pages of someone's life story with some pictures to illustrate it? Or watch a film with someone narrating that life story, with pictures and snippets of video that help the tale?

What types of memorial objects can QR codes be put on?

This depends on what type of package you pick from our options but the most common is a durable stainless steel laser cut plaque. The premium package has the QR code and memorial information etched onto a personalised granite memorial stone. Each package also comes with 20 free memorial cards which you can fill out and most to those people who you want most to watch the film.

The beauty of the QR code memorial is that it's versatile and transferrable. Perhaps you want it laser etched onto a mirror, a paperweight or their favourite tankard. The creative options for this technology are endless. If you have an innovative new idea for a memorial we’d be happy to chat it over with you…

In conclusion, QR memorial plaques offer a new, unique and meaningful way to preserve and share memories. By embracing this and other technology, we can honour our loved ones in a modern and interactive manner, ensuring that their legacy lives on for generations to come.
